Blossom

“What greater gift than the love of a cat.”  Charles Dickens

This is my sketch of Blossom.

I’m checking in on her while her owners are away.  She is a sweet, small, very soft kitty.

She usually greets me as I get out of my car.  We go inside and fill her food and water. Then we spend time together sitting on the front porch listening to the birds.

Blossom lives a good life.  She can come inside or go outside as she pleases through a cat door. Outside are lovely gardens, patios, a pond, woods and a large barn.  Could a cat ask for more?

When I leave, she sits and watches me from the path with her one paw raised, just like Lassie did at the end of the show.  Did you watch Lassie?  Remember the end when the credits rolled?  Is that sweet or what.

Japanese Brush Painting Class

I’m teaching a Japanese Brush Painting Class.  These are the works of my students.

The class is really “getting it” and it is exciting to see.  This week we studied the “Plum Blossom”.

As a “friend of winter,” the plum blossom most vividly represents the value of endurance. In the midst of winter, before snow melts and the swallow returns, plum trees blossom onto the barren landscape, bracing the harshness of winter and reminding us that spring will come. Celebrated here is the vitality of life, endurance through hardship, and hope that life will regenerate.

Sketches on Hand-Made Paper

I painted these sketches on hand-made paper for a friend.  She is making a book for a gift and wanted a sketch for the cover. It was really fun to paint with watercolor and ink on this paper– it’s got such a nice texture to it and the paint and ink soaked right into it –in a nice way.

October the Kitten

This sweet little kitten has appeared in my garden.  She’s been here for about 2 weeks now.  She’s very fun-loving– plays with the leaves on my back porch and tries to make friends with other neighborhood cats.  She’s been shy at first, but now comes up to my feet to play when I flip a feather or leaf back and forth.

Update Feb 2012 –I’ve been feeding her kitten food so she’s very healthy.  She’s been to the vet, has been spayed and she will let me pet her now.  A very happy playful kitten!

Anyone out there interested in adopting a new friend?

Update March 2012–She’s been adopted!!!!!!  ’October’, the little kitten that lived in our yard for the 3rd through 8th month of her life, is now living with her new family.  A friend of one of my co-workers adopted her — They’ve renamed her “Callie O” (O for October!)  she’s doing well and enjoying the company of Pepper, her 2 year old kitty sister!  I am totally thrilled!!!!  THANK GOD FOR FRIENDS!!!

Below:  Callie O (formerly known as October) with her new sister Pepper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
